WelcomeThis website is intended to serve as a pathfinder for theatre students and practitioners, particularly in the United States, who are interested in learning more about the timeless and massively influential German expressionist play, Woyzeck by Georg Büchner. Resources in the following pages are tailored for student directors, dramaturgs, and playwrights with a particular eye toward production, but will certainly serve the casual researcher as well.
A quick note about my personal motives: I must admit a bit of a bias toward this play, and as such have an agenda to see that it be produced with more frequency throughout the United States. Though it is well-known in theatre circles as a powerful illustration of the dehumanizing effects of war and poverty, the recent political landscape has demonstrated a need for this message to grow outside the confines of small artist communities and truly take hold in the American consciousness. -Anna Chovanec, Syracuse University MLIS '15 |
